What is in a friendship?

I sometimes work with young adults and I have young adults in my own family.  Here is a perspective I offer:

If you feel you have to make yourself less, put on a fake face or dumb yourself down to fit in with your peers then – they are not really your peers.  You know you are with your peers if you feel uplifted and inspired to be your greatest expression of you.  You’ll notice yourself exploring your own talents and enjoying theirs.

If you must either smoke or drink alcohol or take drugs to fit in your group – then its really worth taking a look at what the connection in your group is based upon.  Is there an unspoken agreement to let each other play small?

Sometimes a “stuff you”/ everyone else/ authority/ life – energy that might be helping to cover your friend’s (or your) disappointment or lack of trust in the goodness of life to be fun, nurturing and meet our needs.  many people fall into a bit of a hole at some point.  Some don’t realise there is a hole. The risk is that this energy takes over and life becomes a product of this, rather than the amazing gifts and talents you each have and the love that you are. (oops got a bit mushy there).

Learn to hold your disappointment, boredom, stress or frustration in a useful way involves feeling it and then use it to energise getting on track with being the unique and amazing human being you are.  Don’t let anything or anyone de-rail you.

I have friend whose family agreement is – never do anything from a “*-you/or who cares anyway” attitude.  The result is highly unlikely to be what You really want.

When we truly care about our friends, I don’t believe we support our friends when they are doing this or playing small.

To your successful tip-toe-ing through friendships and being You :+)

p.s. coaching for young adults is a great way of adding support to young people and parents/ step parents, in this world of study/ exams, work, stresses and/or blended families.  Call if you want this help. 0438 364 636
